Jat, Hindu in India

Jat, Hindu in India
The Jat are a dominant peasant community of north-west India. Popular local tradition attributes their origin to the matted hair (jata) of Lord Shiva. Another tradition connects them with Jata, one of the sons of Brahma, the Supreme Being. At the present stage of scholarship, it appears that the Jat were a section of the pastoral communities who migrated from Central Asia to western India between the second century BC and fifth century AD.
Ministry Obstacles
The Jat have worshipped false gods for centuries, a practice not quickly overcome.
Outreach Ideas
Christians need to build bridges of friendship and trust with the Jat community. Helping them with material and physical needs is one way to do this.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the few followers of Christ among the Jat community, that they will be hungry to learn more about Jesus, and be zealous to know and follow him. Pray for pastors and teachers.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray for the Jat community to live in harmony with their neighbors, and be able to care well for their families.
Scripture Focus
"Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples. For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised." 1 Chronicles 16:24-25
