The Hela province of Papua New Guinea
was plagued by senseless tribal warfare. As men went off to battle,
women and children were left to fend for themselves, frightened that
their husbands and fathers would not return.
Despite government warnings, EHC pioneer
missionaries traveled over two weeks across burned bridges and through
leech-infested waters to reach the Hela people. Only a few days into
their stay, disaster struck when a fellow peace worker was killed. The
people of Hela didn't anticipate our team's response.
