Arab, Omani in Oman
Omani Arabs were among the first people in the Middle
East to accept Islam. Most Oman Arabs belong to the Ibadi sect of
Islam, one of the religion's oldest and most traditional branches. Ibadi
principles of puritanism and idealism have greatly influenced other
Arabs in surrounding countries, too. Family ties and religious
traditions are strong. Resistance to the Gospel remains strong. Omani
Arabs don't like change in general, especially when they think it could
threaten cultural traditions.Ministry Obstacles The Omani Arabs are strongly committed to Islam. To follow Jesus in this environment would be difficult. Outreach Ideas Much prayer is needed to prepare the hearts of the Omanis to understand and receive the good news of Jesus. The work of the Spirit of Christ is required, it's not an option. Pray for the followers of Christ Pray for the few followers of Christ among the Omani Arabs, that they will find each other, and fellowship together. Pray their faith will be protected, and that they will grow in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Pray they will be faithful witnesses to the goodness of Christ to their family and friends. Pray for the entire people group Oman's general population has reaped benefits of economic success more than the people of any other oil-producing country in the region. The discovery of oil has improved medical care, education and transportation. However, these benefits can dull people to their spiritual needs. Pray that they become very aware of the need to know Jesus Christ as Redeemer. Scripture Focus "The time is coming to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and see My glory." Isaiah 66:18 |
