Jerba of Tunisia

Jerba of Tunisia
Most of the Jerba people live on Djerba island, off the coast of Tunisia. The island is a popular tourist destination, and one of the few remaining places in Tunisia where a Berber language is still spoken. The Jerba have lived on the island of Djerba for thousands of years. They have been conquered by many civilizations, including the Romans, the Carthaginians, the Arabs, the Byzantines, the European Crusaders, the Turks, and the French. There are virtually no Christians among the Jerba, although Berbers were once vibrant Christians.
Ministry Obstacles
Christian Crusaders of long ago have left lingering dislike for Christians in many Middle Eastern and North African areas.
Outreach Ideas
Pray for Gospel radio to be widely available in the language of the Jerba people. Pray they will discover its availability, and will listen carefully. Also pray for Christian tourists to take the initiative to share Christ with the people, and to do it winsomely.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There may be a few followers of Jesus among the Jerba people, but even this is in question. Pray for the many Jerba who will soon become believers, that they will be discipled by skilled teachers.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray that Christian tourists on Djerba island will leave a favorable witness for the indigenous peoples.
Scripture Focus
"For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea." Habakkuk 2:14
