PAKISTAN (ANS – May 31, 2015)
-- According to her family, Asia Bibi, the 50-year-old Pakistani
Christian women on death row for alleged blasphemy, a charge she
vehemently denies, is suffering from intestinal bleeding and requires
medical treatment.
According to a story on the Global Dispatch (http://www.theglobaldispatch.com) website, her lawyers have mobilized to call for a medical response after a recent family visit.
For almost five years Asia Bibi, who is a poor, illiterate woman from
Pakistan's rural Punjab, has been on death row after being accused of
insulting the Prophet Muhammad, and is described by family as “so weak
she can hardly walk.”
The story stated that her family had visited her last week after not seeing Asia for over a month.
They had been traveling in Europe to visit Madrid for the #WeAreN Congress, organized by MasLibres.org and after they visited to the Vatican, where they were received during the general audience by Pope Francis.
According to information provided to http://maslibres.org/ , stomach problems developing for months worsened to the point that she is suffering from “intestinal bleeding”.
“When
vomiting there is also shown traces of blood, Asia has difficulty
feeding properly, while constant pain in the chest. Therefore, it is
necessary that Asia Bibi be submitted as soon as possible a full medical
checkup, including blood work,” said the source.
“Lawyers of Asia Bibi have taken the necessary legal actions to
receive timely medical treatment and is transferred to the prison in
Lahore, which can provide more adequate health care and she would be
closer to her family, who have to travel for several hours from Lahore
to Multan on each visitation,” added the Global Dispatch story.
Asia is alleged to have spoken negatively about Islam and their
prophet as witnessed by some abusive women working near the women. She
had been asked to bring them some water from a local well, and when they
discovered that she had taken a drink from a cup, they began abusing
here and she disagreed with what they had said, and was then charged
with blasphemy and then sentenced to death. She is awaiting her final
appeal.
