Susu, Soso of Sierra Leone
The Susu live
mainly in the coastal areas of Guinea, Sierra Leone, Senegal, and Mali.
They tend to live where there are many marshes and waterways. They often
favor marriages between cousins and they live as an extended family
group. The children will grow up with many fathers and mothers. The Susu
combine their Islamic faith with traditional beliefs. They believe that
ghosts, spirits, and gods all inhabit the same land and that witches
have the power to change into animals and cause harm to their villages.
Ministry Obstacles
Spiritual forces influence the thinking of the Susu and prayer is needed to bring clarity and accuracy to their thoughts about the supernatural. "Spiritual matters are spiritually understood."
Outreach Ideas
The New Testament is available in the language of the Susu, as are other resources such as the Jesus film. Workers are needed to take these resources to the people.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray the few followers of Jesus among the Susu people will be quick to turn from sin and will live holy and righteous lives.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray for improved health care and good schools for the Susu, and that parents will make schooling a priority for their children.
Scripture Focus
"Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done." Psalm 105:1 |
