Members
of Nigerian Islamic extremist group Boko Haram tried to slaughter a
Christian in the northeastern state of Borno in April 2013 for refusing
to renounce Christ, cutting the back of his neck rather than the front
so as to increase the pain, he said. They left him for dead, but he
recovered. Such cruelty has discouraged Christians in Nigeria’s southern
provinces from attending a seminary in the northeast that trains young
people to plant churches, so the ministry that runs it is building a new
training center in the capital, Abuja. “If we do not take this step, we
will have no workers in the near future to reach new fields,” the
ministry director said. “It’s going to cost us $400,000 or more to build
a second school of missions. This is the greatest need now, as without
new missionaries coming in through our training, everything will reduce
without a work force. Do not worry about the huge cost. The Lord will
provide.”
