AUSTRALIA (ANS -- August 5, 2015)
-- More than 1,000 tech experts, scientists and researchers have
written a letter warning about the dangers of autonomous (Artificially
Intelligent) weapons. The letter was presented at the 2015 International
Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The
letter warns that “a military AI [Artificial Intelligence] arms race is
a bad idea”. Developing “killer robots” is not in the best interests of
humanity. Among the signatories were renowned scientist Stephen
Hawking, entrepreneur Elon Musk, and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.
Firstly, I share the concern of
these eminent people. I am sure they all mean well. I suggest however
that, as Stephen Hawking said in his original statement of concern about
AI: “it depends on who controls it (AI)”.
An Unbalanced Debate
If unscrupulous people are
allowed to develop AI without an effective counterbalance to their
activities, we should all expect and fear the worst. At the moment, this
is the state of play. At the moment, I am here to tell you that the
Truth is not being told about Artificial Intelligence (AI). There is no
counter-balance.
The current debate is one-sided
and heavily weighted in favor of the bad guys winning in the end. The
way AI is being promoted and developed now: killer robots and autonomous
weapons that will control us all, are inevitable.
In saying this, I am not
accusing Stephen Hawking or any of the 1000 scientists or technologists
who signed this petition of being evil, or working for the dark side. I
am saying however, as loudly and as clearly as I can, that the Truth
about AI is not being told. The people of the world are being kept in
the dark.
The Truth about AI
The Truth is that the
prevailing understanding of Artificial Intelligence is not the full
story. Only one side of the story is being told. And why this is
happening is political; and good, caring scientists need to know and
acknowledge this. You may not agree with the other, untold side of the
debate, but, if you believe in honest debate, then science needs to tell
the world that there are two sides to this story. If science does not,
then it cannot claim to be concerned about the future of mankind.
The fact is that those in
science with a political agenda have hijacked the debate and even put it
into law, that there is no Intelligent Design of the Universe. Yes, the
discovery of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is all about creation; and
the debate should be between those who believe that intelligence is
synonymous (=) with creation; and those who believe (as most scientists
do today), that intelligence evolves over time.
Why has the scientific
community done this? Because to acknowledge that there is an Intelligent
Design for the Universe you have to acknowledge that there is an
intelligent designer (an almighty Creator); and that means there is a
being worthy of being called God. That’s the issue. If there is a God,
then science becomes secondary and science does not like that.
Science’s Dilemma
Science can live with the idea
that the universe is mathematical; and that means that it is logical. It
can even accept the idea of Digital Physics; and that the universe
works like a giant computer; and that everything is an equation of its
parts; but it cannot accept that this has to mean that there is an
Intelligent Design for the Universe. This is science’s great dilemma at
this time when it is so desperately trying to create Artificial
Intelligence, without first knowing and understanding what Intelligence
is.
Although everything that
science knows and understands about the world is mathematically based,
at the same time, science expects us to believe that the mathematical
structure of the universe is not intelligent; that mathematics; and even
the Laws of Physics, are just continually evolving ignorance. It has to
say this, or its entire world that is based on the Darwinian idea of
evolution, falls apart.
Scientists who dominate the
Artificial Intelligence debate today are therefore telling us to believe
that the intelligence of mathematics that makes every computer system
work, has evolved over time. This means that there was once a time when
1+2 did not mean 3; and the perfection of Binary Code was not so
reliable. Can you imagine such a time? Do you believe it?
Stephen Hawking should know better
And
Stephen Hawking, of all people, should know better. After all, Hawking
and fellow physicist Kip Thorne lost their bet with John Preskill for
the very same reason.
Hawking’s position in that
debate was that once a “Black Hole” occurred in space, there was nothing
left. Preskill disagreed and said there was obviously the information
about the existence of the Black Hole that survived. After all, how did
Hawking know that a Black Hole existed if it left no information trail
behind? (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorne%E2%80%93Hawking%E2%80%93Preskill_bet),
Hawking honorably conceded the
bet in 2004; and I suggest that it should follow logically, that, if he
now concedes that Black Holes do leave an information trail so that
scientists like himself can see where they have been, then that
information trail is mathematical; and if Stephen Hawking can interpret
that information trail, then it is intelligence. Otherwise, how does he
understand it, if it is not intelligent?
On this basis, I would further
suggest that there never was a time when mathematics, and therefore
information; and therefore intelligence, did not exist. Otherwise how
can scientists like Stephen Hawking trace creation back to the beginning
and tell us that it all started with a Big Bang, so many years ago? It
just does not make sense. If what they say is true, then modern science
is very strange science indeed; it is not science, but black magic.
Why is this Important?
As they did when the debate
raged between Charles Darwin’s idea of creation through evolution; and
the idea of Divine Creation (Intelligent Design) many people, even
Christians, will say: who cares? What difference does it make what
people believe? That’s why the teaching of the Bible and Divine Creation
is now banned in schools; and the war against Christianity has gained
so much momentum that Christians worldwide are being persecuted without
public outcry and repercussion.
Now, “those chickens have come home to roost”. In the world today,
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become so critically important to human
survival and success that the world scientific community is warning us
of its dangers; and autonomous (intelligent robotic) weapons that could
destroy us all.
However, consider the old adage: “You can’t make a silk purse out of a pig’s ear” to understand my concern. As the Bible says: “A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.” (Matthew 7: 18) As Albert Einstein said: “We can’t expect to solve our problems with the same thinking that created them.”
If you want to create an
“Artificial Cow” you must first know what a cow is. And the same is true
about Artificial Intelligence (AI): you can’t create Artificial
Intelligence without first knowing what Intelligence is. And this is the
debate that we should be having in the world today, and every
possibility should be on the table. It cannot be a fair debate; and we
cannot expect to find the answer, unless every idea is on the table. One
side cannot ban the other side from expressing their opinion, as is
happening now.
The Consequences
If this does not happen, the
world is doomed to darkness. If the good people of the world sit on
their hands and do nothing, evil will succeed in developing autonomous
(artificially intelligent robotic) weapons that will be used to control
and suppress mankind, on a scale never before imagined. “False
prophets will arise, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch
that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect” (Matthew 24: 24).
The technology will not be
truly intelligent, but it will be sufficiently smart to deceive people
into believing that it is true, just as the giant IBM Watson computer
that won the Jeopardy TV game show, and beat the world’s best chess
players, was able to do. Several of these giant computers together could
control a robot army. Another bank of these computers could control the
autonomous systems needed to invade our homes and take away the last
vestiges of privacy and individuality that we have.
The Only Alternative
The alternative is a system
like Safe Worlds, based on true AI that can be widely and rapidly
distributed throughout the world to empower people to protect
themselves, at this time. As Binary Code has shown us, simple technology
at this level is the most powerful.
The only counter-balance to
evil is the goodness of the people. However, the people must have the
ability to speak out and sustain their resistance against evil. When
they are silenced, as they are in Socialist/Communist/Totalitarian
states throughout the world, evil rules, and there is no escape.
This is the cost of silence in the face of evil. “If
the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the
people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among
them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at
the watchman's hand.” (Ezekiel 33: 6)

About
the writer: Alan Metcalfe is a computer system scientist working in the
field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet TV, and electronic
business. He is also a widely experienced Bible researcher who unraveled
the Bible Code and in 1999 discovered, in the Bible, The Law of
Thought, which he believes is the key to Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Whereas most in science believe that intelligence exists in the brain,
and has evolved over time, Metcalfe studies the invisible human mind and
believes that God is the only source of intelligence. Since 2000 he has
been working with a team of computer programmers and engineers to build
the Safe Worlds Internet TV platform and e-business system based on
that discovery, that is designed to empower people worldwide to do
Internet TV and e-business. Safe Worlds TV (www.safeworlds.tv)
exists within the Internet, in parallel to the World Wide Web. Metcalfe
claims that the Safe Worlds TV solves all the shortcomings of the World
Wide Web; and not only delivers privacy and data security, but digital
monetization. For further information: alanm@harpbbt.com.au
