Amis, Ami of China
The Ami,
who "seem to be composed of several more-or-less unrelated ethnic
elements," say their ancestors came from an overseas island called
Sanasai or Vasai. Some scholars have speculated these islands are
today's Caroline Islands in the Pacific Ocean. Many Ami villages have a
matrilineal clan system, with the grandmother acting as the head of the
household. Some Ami believe men should only eat male fish and women
should only eat female fish. The Ami in Fujian are polytheists. They are
an unreached group in China, despite the presence of a strong Ami
church in Taiwan. As many as half of the Ami in Taiwan claim to be
Christians.
Ministry ObstaclesPolytheistic beliefs in gods and goddesses, coupled with beliefs brought in by men who went to fight in time of war may have confused the Ami and left them suspicious of other beliefs. Outreach Ideas Teams of Ami missionaries from Taiwan have been sent to a few countries, including China. Pray some of these Ami believers will be sent to their own tribe living in mainland China.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for those the Lord will call to himself from among the Ami of China, and that the Lord is even now preparing teachers and pastors to help them. Pray they will experience the unity Jesus described in John 17.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Ami will increasingly understand there is one creator God who transcends his creation, and will pay homage to him.
Scripture Focus
"Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest?' Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest." John 4:35 |
