Guhjali, Wakhi of Tajikistan
The Wakhi live on both sides of China's remote border with Pakistan. Other Wakhi are located in Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Marco Polo described the area when he passed through more than 700 years ago: "...No birds fly here because of the height and the cold. ... The inhabitants live very high up in the mountains. They are idolaters and utter savages, living entirely by the chase and dressed in the skins of beasts." Although the Wakhi have been Shi'a Muslims for centuries, they have retained many animistic rituals.

Sustained, focused prayer is needed for the Wakhi. Pray the Lord will soften the ground for future missionaries.

Although there are no known Christian believers among the Wakhi, pray for those that will one day emerge. Pray the Lord is even now preparing pastors and teachers for them. Pray for the scriptures to be made available to them.
