Bedouin, Berabish of Mali

Bedouin, Berabish of Mali
A widely quoted Bedouin saying is: "I against my brothers, I and my brothers against my cousins, I and my brothers and my cousins against the world." Bedouins traditionally have strong honor codes, and traditional systems of justice dispensation in Bedouin society typically revolve around such codes. The bisha'a, or ordeal by fire, is a well-known Bedouin practice of lie detection.

Ministry Obstacles
These people live in a harsh environment, difficult for outsiders to enter.

Outreach Ideas
Gospel radio will be useful, and visiting workers bringing videos and recordings are needed. Sustained prayer may be the best thing we can do.

Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the few followers of Christ among the Bedouin of Mali. They live in a difficult environment. Pray they will have nothing to do with the deeds of darkness, living as children of light.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray for the material and physical needs of the Bedouin. Pray they will be able to care properly for their families.

Scripture Focus
"The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest." Matthew 9:37-38

Pray for Fur, Forok of Sudan

Fur, Forok of Sudan
Darfur, the name of the area where they live today, means the Homeland of the Fur. This area was known in the 16th century as Southern Nubia. They are an active agricultural people and may also herd cattle. The Fur are nominally Sunni Muslims following the Maliki school of Islamic law. They are kin to the Kanuri people of Nigeria, with whom they maintained contact over the centuries.

Ministry Obstacles
The Darfur area is in much turmoil, a dangerous place.

Outreach Ideas
Workers need to minister to the Fur by helping them physically and materially. The needs are great.

Pray for the followers of Christ
There are few if any followers of Christ among the Fur, but pray the Lord will soon build His church among this ancient community. Pray they will keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Pray for the entire people group
Ask the Lord to help the Fur care properly for their families, and to live lives of peace in a dangerous land. Pray the Lord gives them increasing hunger to learn more about Isa (Jesus) of the Koran, the Prince of Peace.

Pray for Uyghur of China

Uyghur of China
The Uyghurs live in the western portion of China. Their origins can be traced back to Turkish nomads who lived in the former Soviet Union, south of Lake Baikal. In 840 AD they were forced by the Kirghiz to leave their homeland, and most of them immigrated to Xinjiang province of western China, where they have remained until today. The strategic location of their oasis homes allowed them to be the "middlemen" for commerce between the orient and Europe.

Ministry Obstacles
For a Uyghur to follow Christ is to lose much of his place in his family and community.

Outreach Ideas
Christians need to form bridges of friendship with the Uyghurs, serving them materially and physically as well as spiritually.

Pray for the followers of Christ
There are few Christian believers among the Uyghurs of China, but pray for those that know Christ. Pray they will be taught the scriptures, will be hungry to learn and grow, and will follow Christ zealously.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Uyghurs will increasingly be drawn to Isa (Jesus) of the Koran, curious to find out more about this man. Pray the Lord will reveal Himself to them, and call many to follow Him.

Scripture Focus
"For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea." Habakkuk 2:14

Pray for Sarki of Nepal

Sarki of Nepal
The traditional and primary occupation of the Sarki was shoe-making, but nowadays only a few among them are occupied as leather-workers or cobblers. They have family deities and a village deity. Some of their deities are Santala Devi, Maidevta and Dat Kali. Their witchdoctor is called lama or jhankri.

Ministry Obstacles
The worldview of the Sarki is very different than those of a monotheist, who believes in one God who is creator of all.

Outreach Ideas
The Lord is building His church in Nepal. His Spirit is active. Pray that Christian workers will include the Sarki community in their outreach.

Pray for the followers of Christ
There are some Christians among the Sarki community. Pray they become more than cultural Christians, instead becoming zealous disciples of Christ, trusting Him fully with their lives.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Sarki community will be dissatisfied with worshipping the gods of this age, but rather will hunger to know the creator God and His Son who came to give them life.

Scripture Focus
"And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations." Mark 13:10

Prayer Request GPN 05-04-2010

GPN 05-04-2010

Temptations are sure to “rap” at your door, but it’s your fault if you let them in.

(2 Peter 2:9; Matthew 6:13; 26:41 Greetings, Roberto Wijnhof.

Please pray for my friend. Michelle, who has been battling thyroid cancer and various other cancer-related illnesses for several years. I just got this prayer request from her today. She desperately needs to be lifted up in prayer, as well as her family: Brent, her husband, and her two children. She needs a true, divine visitation from Jesus and a miracle of healing in her body, mind, soul, and spirit. Please pull out all the stops today and pray for Michelle. I can only imagine her suffering so far, and it looks like there is more in her future unless god intervenes.

This is from Michelle:I was hospitalised for 7 months and just got out a week and a half ago and I found out yesterday that they are going to amputate my left leg. I am not dealing with this news well at all. HELEN

Please pray for my son who has been falsely accused of a crime. My son Matthew, will have a court hearing Wednesday, 5th of May 2010 at 1:30PM to determine whether or not he should go to trial. Please pray Matthew will be exonerated of all charges Wednesday and that he may resume a normal life. Thank you. Sincerely, James Woods.

George has been looking for a job to provide for his young son and 89 yr old sickly father. He has reached desperation in his search with no avail. George is a man of little faith. Recently, he began searching for God in all earnestly, humbleness, and humility. Pray that he will find his way to God. Pray that God will reveal Himself to George. We began to pray for George a week ago last Thursday. The next day, on Friday, he got a preliminary interview for a potential job after no interviews for two years. Praise the Lord. The next interview will be this coming Friday if he is chosen. I believe that the Lord is working profoundly in George's life. Pray with me for George. I have no doubt that the Lord will fully answer these prayers before this journey ends. His work has already begun. Praise God. Please pray with me. Thank you. C.

COLOMBIA: Kogui rights appeal denied.

A group of Christians from the indigenous Kogui community in Colombia, are continuing their battle for the right to practice their Christian faith. The group were illegally detained late last year and put under severe pressure to return to a traditional belief system. Their appeal was denied by the Colombian courts,, meaning that if the government refuses to intervene their only option is to take the case to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. Pray for the Kogui Christians.

Handling Crisis!

Handling Crisis!
Alice Smith

Have you ever been in a crisis that you knew the Lord was ready and waiting to give you victory, and yet you blew it? When you could have trusted and praised Him for the situation, instead you complained? Has it happened to you? It has to me. What generally happens next?

Most often the Father engineers the crisis again, to give you another opportunity to pass the test. However, you will not be as committed to learn the lesson as before. There will be less discernment of God and more humiliation having not obeyed. And if you continue to grieve the Holy Spirit, there will come a time when you become numb to the crisis – choosing simply to blame the devil for your own lack of obedience. Never sympathize with the issues in your life that are stabbing God all the time. God sometimes has to shake areas in your life that must change. If you continue to resist the work of the Lord, the result will be emotional turmoil and spiritual emptiness.

However, if you face the crisis with humility, all the while praising God for the opportunity to become more like Him, then the testimony of your life reflects Christ’s likeness to others. Gloriously, you are promoted to new levels of victory and joy because in your heart you know that you stood strong in faith regardless of the crisis you had faced.

Can you imagine the tension that Moses felt when he was asking for God’s presence to go with him as he was leading the children of Israel into the Promised Land? In prayer, Moses asked God, “Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation [is] thy people. And he said, My presence shall go [with thee], and I will give thee rest. And he said unto him, If thy presence go not [with me], carry us not up hence” (see Ex. 33:13-15).

Can you see Moses’ crisis? Moses was faced with leading millions of people from slavery, through a wilderness and into a place of promise? He would not go without the presence of the Lord. You too may be afraid to move forward, when facing your crisis. Questions invade your mind like, Did God really tell me to do this? or What happens if I fail?

Do you experience undisturbed peace when faced with difficulties? I find myself many times painfully disturbed, distracted and unsure. It’s as if the waves and billows of God’s providential timing are sweeping over me even though I am not prepared for them. Moses didn’t feel ready to face his crisis either. Yet God told him, “And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen” (Ex. 33:22-23).

Do you find there is an unconscious fear that maybe if you pursue the Lord more, and begin to receive His friendship in a deeper way, that it might cost you more than you are willing to pay? We long for more of His presence, and yet we know that to whom much is given, much is required. Surely the responsibility could be so great that if you disobeyed or did something stupid during the crunch time, you would be disqualified for future ministry opportunities. Relax. The Lord is a good God and He desires for us to stay humble, teachable and always hungry for more of Him. As long as you continue to seek His face, you have nothing to worry about.

To learn God’s ways can be costly. But to live without knowing His ways will always cost you more. God called Moses His friend. (See Ex. 33:11.) The crisis may prove difficult, even costly, but imagine the joy of hearing the Father call you His friend. Don’t you want that? I do.

Pray for Pasi, Hindu of India

Pasi, Hindu of India
The legend about the origin of the community is that one day a man was going to kill a number of cows. Parashuram was at that time practicing austerities in the jungle. Hearing the cries of the sacred animals he rushed to their assistance, but the cow killer was aided by his friends. So Parashuram made five men out of kusha grass and brought them to life by letting drops of his perspiration fall upon them. Hence arose the name Pasi, from the Hindi pasina (sweat).

Ministry Obstacles
This community speaks a number of languages. Separate church planting projects may be needed for each language group.

Outreach Ideas
Stories from scripture, films, recordings, and Gospel radio for each language spoken by the Pasi community will be helpful.

Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the followers of Christ that will soon emerge from the Pasi community, that the Lord will provide pastors and teachers for them, and for them to become well grounded in the faith, fully trusting in Christ.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Pasi community will increasingly be aware of their need to know and follow the creator God.
