Arab, Iraqi in Australia

Arab, Iraqi in Australia
When Iraqis were first listed in the Australian census, the population was just over 2,000. In 2001 there was more than 10 times that many. Fleeing refugees from recent war and terrorism has increased those numbers in the past few years. Interestingly, while the majority of Iraqis are Muslim, the Muslim numbers are lesser among Iraqi emigres to Australia. Since many of them may be fleeing persecution from Muslim extremists, the number tend to include a number of Arab Christians. Most speak Arabic at home and few speak English. The population is largely younger, with a large majority being under 35.
Ministry Obstacles
Life in a host country can open the doors to the gospel or it can make a community withdraw in isolation.
Outreach Ideas
Many of the new arrivals of Iraqi Arabs to Australia are fleeing persecution and war. They need help getting plugged in and oriented in the country and may be very much in need of temporary housing. Hospitality should be a hallmark of Christian living.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Among the Iraqi Arab there are quite a few Christians. Pray they will cling fervently to Jesus and the truth of the gospel and share freely with their fellow Arabs.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray this community will find open arms in Australia and in other countries where they are hoping to find refuge. Pray the process will run smoothly for them to find housing.
Scripture Focus
"I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in." Matthew 25:35
