Alak of Laos
The Alak have
retained most of their customs and many women wear traditional dress. In
the past, Alak women tattooed their faces, but this custom is now dying
out. Alak society is traditionally matriarchal. The women lead the
family, keep control of finances, and make all major decisions that
affect the community. In times of sickness or calamity, or if a poor
crop is produced, the Alak believe they have provoked the spirits and a
ceremony is held in order to find the offended deity. A chicken is
boiled and a shaman summoned to study the liver patterns and stomach of
the chicken.
Ministry Obstacles
Scripture is not reported as available in the Alak language, but Gospel recordings are available.
Outreach Ideas
Pray for the followers of ChristPray for workers who will pray for the Alak, and who will take Gospel recordings to them and befriend them. There may be a tiny number of Christians among the Alak. Pray they will increasingly meet together and encourage one another in Christ. Pray for the entire people group Pray the Alak will have improved medical care available, and will learn improved farming practices.
Scripture Focus
"I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth." Isaiah 49:6

Kanuri, Yerwa, Beriberi of Cameroon
|
Kanuri, Yerwa, Beriberi of Cameroon
The Kanuri are
tall and very dark in appearance, with a stately, dignified look. This
signifies their pride and appreciation for their past as rulers, as well
as their present position of leadership and influence. The divorce rate
among the Kanuri is extremely high, with eight out of ten marriages
ending in divorce. Polygamy is common. The Kanuri have been Muslims
since the eleventh century. Some superstitions are still practiced in
conjunction with Islam.
Ministry Obstacles
Pride is one of the most effective barriers to simple faith in Jesus and his finished work on the cross.
Outreach Ideas
A number of good Gospel resources exist in the main language of the Kanuri. Workers are needed to take these to the people.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the few followers of Jesus among the Kanuri, that they will meet together and study God's story together.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the proud Kanuri people will clearly see their need for forgiveness of sin, the complete forgiveness that only faith in Jesus Christ provides.
Scripture Focus
"But indeed, as I live, all the earth will be filled with the glory of the Lord." Numbers 14:21

Dhakad of India
|
Dhakad of India
Traditionally,
the Dhakad are farmers. A sacred thread (janeu) is the symbol of a
married man. After a father's death, the family deity is given to the
eldest son as he is the successor. They worship family, clan, and
village deities like Gaondei and Banjari Mata. The Dhakad accept food
and water from the Brahman and Rawat only. They do not allow
intercommunity marriages. The Brahman conduct their rituals, the Dhobi
wash their clothes on the occasions of birth and death, and the Nai
shave off their hair. Family property is inherited equally by all the
male children. Their chief god is Balram, from whom they trace their
descent.
Ministry ObstaclesWorkers can expect opposition as Jesus is presented to a people who have worshipped spiritual beings that have held them in bondage for generations.
Outreach Ideas
Pray that evangelists and church planters in other Indian people groups will be led to the Dhakad community. Pray they won't be overlooked as the Gospel advances in India.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the entire people groupEven though there no known followers of Jesus today among the Dhakad, pray that God will be arranging encounters between many in this group and believers who will be obedient to the Spirit in sharing Christ with them. Please pray all the Dhakad people will be set free from superstition and the worship of created things.

Kamboh, Muslim of Pakistan
|
Kamboh, Muslim of Pakistan
Muslim Kambohs
have a tradition they descended from the ancient Kai dynasty of Persia.
Muhammad Umar writes: "The (Muslim) Kamboh distinguished themselves by
their courage, generosity and high spirits. They were famous for their
excellent manners and were particularly gifted with wisdom and
nobility.....perhaps with a view to maintaining the purity of their
descent, or because of pride of nobility, they confined their
matrimonial relationships within their own groups and did not establish
marriage connections with other Muslim groups including even the Saiyids
and the Mughals." Kambojs are known as adventurous and enterprising
people.
Ministry Obstacles
Spiritual opposition to the Gospel is intense in Pakistan.
Outreach Ideas
Pray for an insatiable hunger in the hearts of the Kamboh for knowledge of the true God.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There may not be a single follower of Jesus among the Kamboh today, in either Pakistan or India. Please pray the Lord will begin to stir their hearts to seek a Savior for their sin.
Pray for the entire people group
Please pray the Kamboh community will be set free from a religion that offers no promise of eternal life, nor does it offer power for living this life victoriously.

Baliaga, Highland Bali of Indonesia
|
Baliaga, Highland Bali of Indonesia
The Baliaga are
a people group residing in several remote villages on the island of
Bali. They are considered to be the original inhabitants of the island
and were there long before the 16th century arrival of the people group
we now know as Balinese. The culture, language, and religion of the
Baliaga differ significantly from that of their Balinese neighbors. They
maintain a strong sense of cultural identity and still practice unique
rituals found nowhere else. It is difficult to distinguish between the
culture and religion of the Baliaga people because these are so
intertwined. Although they practice the Balinese form of Hinduism, they
are also animistic. They worship at various Balinese temples, but also
practice a form of ancestor worship.
Ministry Obstacles
Generations of belief in Hinduism mixed with Animism make it quite difficult for a person to comprehend the Gospel when it comes.
Outreach Ideas
Perhaps Christian tourists to the island of Bali will be given an interest in making their trip more fruitful by telling the Baliaga about Jesus, who he is and what he offers to the Baliaga.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Even though there are no known followers of Jesus today among the Baliaga people, pray for the many who will soon come to saving faith. They will need much prayer to completely change their worldview from Hinduism/Animism to an understanding of the one creator God.
Pray for the entire people group
Since most of their villages are located high in the mountains instead of near fertile rice fields, they are limited in the kinds of crops they can grow. Their mountain remoteness and lower economic status causes them to be looked down upon by most Balinese.
Scripture Focus
"...that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God; there is no one else." 1 Kings 8:60

Bedouin, Fezzan of Libya
|
Bedouin, Fezzan of Libya
The Bedouin are
descendants of Arab invaders and the native North African Berber
population. The first Arab invasion of North Africa was in A.D. 643, but
complete Arabization did not occur until much later. There are very few
true nomads among the Bedouin, while semi-nomads are quite numerous.
The true nomads herd only camels, and they wander freely. The
semi-nomads cultivate crops, primarily barley and wheat. Nomadic Bedouin
live in portable black tents made from woven goat hair. Half of the
tent is for the women, children, cooking utensils, and storage. The
other half contains a fireplace and is used for entertaining. Bedouin
have been Muslim for many generations.
Ministry Obstacles
Resources are available in the languages of most Bedouin, but how can resources be made available to these people living largely in remote portions of Libya?
Outreach Ideas
Gospel radio can be effective in reaching people in remote areas, and is especially needed for nomadic groups. Please pray for funding needed to create good quality programs and to keep them on the air.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the entire people groupThere are no known followers of Jesus among the Fezzan Bedouin. However, please pray for those the Lord is preparing for himself. They will need prayer support, and they will need teachers to help them. Please pray for the Bedouin to have adequate rainfall for their crops and herds. Pray also they will see the importance of educating their children well for a rapidly changing world.

Dongxiang of China
|
Dongxiang of China
The Dongxiang
region is a desolate, arid place with a moon-like landscape. Other
Muslims in China do not consider the Dongxiang to be a part of the
Islamic faith because of their involvement in drug and prostitution
rackets. Not long after the Dongxiang first arrived in China, they were
converted to Islam. By 1949, when the Communists took over China, there
was one mosque for every 30 Dongxiang homes and one paid Muslim worker
for every nine families. The majority of Dongxiang belong to the Old
Sect, which emphasizes worshiping at the tombs of Muslim saints. "The
remainder belongs to the New Sect, a fundamentalist and reformist
group." There were numerous brutal wars between the two Dongxiang sects
in the last century.
Ministry Obstacles
No scripture is reported as available in the language of the Dongxiang, but Gospel recordings are available.
Outreach Ideas
Pray for the followers of ChristPerhaps Han Chinese Christians will be led to pray much for the Dongxiang people. Pray the Lord will lead them to do this, and not give up. There has never been a single known church or Christian among the Dongxiang. The nearest church to the Dongxiang is a Han Chinese fellowship in Linxia. The Christians there, however, believe "it is impossible to reach the Dongxiang." Pray for the entire people group Please pray the Lord will soften the hearts of the Dongxiang toward the person of Jesus Christ. Only God's Spirit will be able to overcome generations of resistance to the God who loves them.
