Facing Islamic Hostility with Gentleness

Facing Islamic Hostility with Gentleness

July 21, 2016
Jihadi youth attacking church in Turkey.
A security camera captures jihadists attacking a church building in Samsun, Turkey.
More than a decade ago a young man fled his native Morocco after a radical Islamist infiltrated his house church, threatening his life. He and his wife were safe once they settled in their adopted country, but his conscience was troubled.
He had come out of Islam, but he felt he still had to face Islam, the man known as Brother Rachid said at a recent conference on persecution in Washington, D.C. After settling in their new country, he asked his wife, then pregnant for the first time after eight years of trying to conceive, why they weren't still proclaiming Christ to Muslims.
He answered his own question: "'Because we are cowards.' I opened the Book of Acts and asked, 'Didn't these people preaching Christ also have families? If we don't do it, who's going to do it?'"
Having begun in radio, in 2006 he began a program on satellite TV in which Muslims and others call in to ask questions about Islam and Christianity. Friends and relatives advised against doing the program, saying it was too dangerous. Rachid pushed ahead, and the broadcast has helped bring thousands of Muslims to Christ.
"Every Thursday at 9 p.m., people will call us up, some to curse us, some to give their lives to Christ - we're fishing for all kinds of fish," he said.
As a high-profile Christian in the Muslim world, he now has a target on his back, which is nothing new for him. After hearing the gospel through a radio ministry at age 12, followed by four years of correspondence courses, Rachid found himself homeless when his family kicked him out because of his newfound faith. He lived on the streets for two years, and for three more he lived with a missionary family.
"If communism were a religion, should we stop criticizing it?" he said. "No one calls critics of Christianity a Christianophobe."
The son of an imam, he learned early on the opposition that converts face. Relatives of those who leave Islam in the Middle East and North Africa, he said, initially try to bargain with them, offering or withdrawing things to persuade them to return to the fold. Failing that, rejection follows, sometimes violently. In one country in the region, the father-in-law of a Muslim woman who recently came to faith in Christ stabbed her to death after discovering her conversion through a text message she had sent. The father-in-law was convicted but sentenced to only a few months in prison because it was an "honor killing," Rachid said.
Socially, a kafir ("infidel") loses all status in Muslim culture, he said; they cannot marry or claim inheritance, for example. Rachid said he lost 90 percent of his friends when he converted.
In the legal realm, authorities will tend to believe that any crime befalling converts came about because "they brought it upon themselves," he said. Governments will deny or deprive them of official papers so that they cannot obtain a bank account or work. They will receive threats from unknown persons.
Rachid said the more Muslims learn about Islam, the more likely they'll be to leave it.
"As people find out what Islam really is, there are lots of people in Egypt and Saudi Arabia becoming atheists," he said.
Though religion should be subject to critique in free societies, he recommended deflecting accusations of being an "Islamophobe" by describing Islam as an ideology, more than a religion.
"If communism were a religion, should we stop criticizing it?" he said, adding that Islam is an ideology that encompasses every aspect of life, including political and social structures. "Islam preaches violence and hatred. Besides, no one calls critics of Christianity a Christianophobe."
Though forthright in his assertions, Rachid has a kind, gentle demeanor. The same gentleness helps a pastor in Turkey to earn Christianity a good name amid a hostile culture. At a recent court hearing for Islamists who on Feb. 25 damaged windows and a security camera of his rented church building in Samsun, Pastor Matta (full name withheld for security reasons) surprised the judge.
"During the trial, the judge asked me whether I am pressing charges or not," he said. "I replied, 'I'm not pressing charges because the Lord asked me to forgive.' The judge waited for some seconds and asked again, saying, "You're not even asking for the damages they caused with the broken windows and the camera?' I replied, 'No, I don't want to; the only thing I want is it to be known that we are not bad people.'"
The magistrate smiled and said that the pastor may not have wanted to press charges, but that he as judge was going to try them for causing harm to a place of worship.
Syrian refugees inside a Turkish church.
A church in the Black Sea region of Turkey, under threat from Muslims, overflows as Muslim refugees and others put their faith in Christ.
"I then remembered the verse from Exodus 14:14, "The LORD shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace,'" Pastor Matta said. "We praise God because after this attack good reports for us were published in many papers, and some officials came to visit us."
After the suspects were released from jail the day after the attack, some of them had yelled the jihadist slogan, "Allahu Akbar [God is greater]." That same slogan is invoked in jihadist movements such as that of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria and Iraq, where Christians are targeted for their faith. Pastor Matta recently met a Christian refugee from Iraq who fled with his family to Turkey when ISIS began to approach their area after burning neighboring villages.
"As we were Christians, we had no chance of survival," the refugee told Pastor Matta. "So we left everything behind and came to Turkey."
A smuggler offered to take them to Greece by boat, and his son agreed to take family members against his father's advice. The refugee stayed behind as his wife, two of his sons, a daughter-in-law and three grandchildren undertook the voyage.
"Seven people from the family of this man lost their lives when the boat in which they were crossing the Mediterranean to reach Greece from Turkey capsized and sunk," Pastor Matta said. "He told us his sad story with tears in his eyes. There are many stories like this, of those whose lives are broken by the ugliness of the deeds of ISIS and then come to a church and hear the words of Jesus Christ, 'You shall even love your enemies.'"
Those who hear such preaching are impressed, want to know more about Jesus, and gladly accept a New Testament, he said. Wrecked Country

Destroyed section of Aleppo, Syria.
While the specter of a Syrian government siege of rebel-held portions of eastern Aleppo haunts civilians after the forces of President Bashar al-Hassad seized the only road leading into the area last weekend, rebel forces also have wreaked destruction on civilians, including the bombing deaths of children. A pastor in Aleppo reported that recent attacks have killed several civilians and seriously damaged the Armenian Catholic “Zvartnots” Holy Trinity Church. At the same time, he said rebel terrorist groups launched gunfire and rocket attacks on Aleppo’s Christian neighborhoods of Baghdad Station and Suleymanieh (Awjet Al-jeb), causing massive material damage. An indigenous ministry in Syria is providing cash, school tuition, medical aid and home rent for victims of the violence. “Those dear suffering people still need our prayers and financial support,” the ministry director said. “Thank you for sending donations, and thanks to all of you who are praying on their behalf.”

smaller Dave2Of the Connect Conference event, one participant commented, “I met incredible brothers and sisters in Christ and I was encouraged by what they shared and imparted as well as the time for me to discuss the ministry where I advance Jesus’ name.”
Another young participant said, “Being 25 years old...I received so much insight and wisdom…and ideas on how to be more effective and engaging.”
One of the primary core values of NGA is collaboration, and the annual Connect Conference can be a way for NGA members to network and learn how they can partner together. A post-conference survey indicated eight out of ten attendees planned to pursue collaboration with someone they met at the conference. Nine out of ten indicated they were able to make meaningful connections with other evangelists and evangelistic ministries.
Next Generation Alliance, founded in 1998, exists to identify, affirm, equip, and mobilize an international fellowship of evangelists. A ministry of the Luis Palau Association, NGA has grown in its 18-year history to a fellowship of over 630 members, a diverse network emphasizing the idea of “one message, many expressions” in the spread of the Gospel.

Daya in Indonesia

Daya in Indonesia
Daya homes are mostly found in the southern and western foothills and mountains of the Bukit Barisan range of Sumatra. Daya houses usually consist of a bedroom and a large guest room. The floor and walls are made of wood or bamboo. The roof is often made of coconut palm leaves layered with clay. Although the influence of Islam is strong upon the culture of the Daya, they also maintain animistic beliefs. Many Daya use amulets with written verses from the Qur'an. A dukun (shaman/healer/occultist) is often called to heal the sick and cast out evil spirits.
Ministry Obstacles
There is often fear involved when people consider leaving their religion: fear of spirits, fear of other people.
Outreach Ideas
Many good resources are available in the language of the Daya people. Gospel films are available, as well as printed material and recordings. These can all be useful, but workers are needed.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray the few followers of Christ among the Daya community will faithfully fellowship together. Pray they will put off falsehood and speak truthfully to one another, in love. Pray they will be protected from temptations.
Pray for the entire people group
The physical needs of the Daya are great. One third of the Daya live below the poverty level. They seriously require help in the areas of health and drinking water. Besides this, they need educational assistance in the form of teachers, school equipment and supplies, school buildings and other community facilities for children.
Scripture Focus
"Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples. For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised." 1 Chronicles 16:24-25

More than 24,000 Turn Out for Good News

More than 24,000 Turn Out for Good News -- Both In-Person and Via the Internet -- At Harvest Georgia Outreach with Greg Laurie

1,052 Change Their “Spiritual Address” During Weekend Harvest Crusade, Sept. 23 - 25
By Dan Wooding, Founder of ASSIST News Service
Greg Laurie makes a point at Harvest GeorgiaDULUTH, GEORGIA (ANS - Sept. 26, 2016) -- After a year of planning and prayer, more than 200 churches throughout Atlanta and North Georgia united in faith this past weekend, Sept. 23 – 25, 2016, to host Harvest Georgia 2016 at Infinite Energy Arena in Duluth, Georgia, located just minutes outside of Atlanta.
According to a news release from Laura McGowan Communications (http://www.lauramcgowan.com/), the Harvest Georgia outreach drew more than 24,000 people over the course of the weekend -- both in-person and via the Internet -- with crowds gathering to hear a nightly message of hope from Southern California pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie and music from top Christian artists including Lecrae, Chris Tomlin, THIRD DAY, and Phil Wickham.
Community connections were strong at the Harvest Georgia outreach as a local 500-voice choir comprised of singers from 15 area churches backed up Atlanta local and Grammy Award winning worship leader, Chris Tomlin during the Sunday evening program. Lecrae and THIRD DAY also have ties to Atlanta.
smaller Phil Wickham usePastors from the area participated in the three-day Harvest Georgia outreach by leading times of prayer, including Dr. James Merritt of Cross Pointe Church, Sandy Adams of Calvary Chapel Stone Mountain, and Dr. Johnny Hunt of First Baptist Church of Woodstock.
Passion City Church pastor Louie Giglio also took to the stage on Sunday evening to thank Greg Laurie for bringing Harvest Georgia to the state, commenting, “What Greg and his team are doing here is extraordinary…We are living in an amazing time in the history of the world. I’m convinced that we are in the middle of revival and Harvest is at the forefront of that.”
Laurie told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (Sept. 23, 2016) that the Harvest events were not just for people who go to church every Sunday.
“This event is also for people who may be skeptical or perhaps never darkened the doorway of a church, yet have questions about life and about God,” he said. This was indeed the case at Harvest Georgia as many attendees heeded the call to “bring a friend,” and invited family, neighbors, and co-workers to hear Laurie’s nightly presentation of the Good News of the Gospel.
Laurie’s messages throughout the weekend addressed the big questions in life that many people ask: Why am I here? What is the meaning of my life? What happens when I die? “The statistics on death are pretty impressive, one out of one people dies,” Laurie told crowds gathered at Infinite Energy Arena. “Everyone dies, no matter who you are. But death died when Christ rose.”
A hug of joy at Harvest GeorgiaLaurie continued, “I’ve been up close and personal with death and if I didn’t have Christ in my life, I don’t know how I would have gotten through it. But I know I will see my son and others on the other side of heaven. I hope you have that hope, as well. Heaven is not the default destination of every person, it is the destination of those who know Christ.”
“Heaven is not for good people, it is for forgiven people,” said Laurie. “The Gospel truth is that God loves you and will forgive you if you will turn from your sin and believe in Him. You can literally change your spiritual address tonight.”
Over three nights, 913 literally did change their “spiritual address” as they walked from the stands onto the floor of the arena to publicly make commitments of faith. Another 139 made decisions of faith via live Internet broadcasts.
Crowds coming forward for Harvest GeorgiaAll nights of the 2016 SoCal Harvest were broadcast on the Internet, and 11,966 people watched live from 138 countries and all 50 states. In addition, 51,305 viewers participated through Facebook Live. The 2016 SoCal Harvest is archived and available for viewing at www.harvest.org.
Each night of Harvest Georgia 2016 was broadcast live on God TV (god.tv/tunein/us), and JUCE-TV (jucetv.com).
Who is Greg Laurie?
With a trademark ability to present a clear gospel message in a culturally relevant format, drawing on the latest in current events, contemporary Christian music, and technology, Greg Laurie’s Harvest outreaches have drawn more than 5.7 million people to stadiums and arenas around the world since 1990, with another 1.8 million people attending virtually via the Internet.
Crowds being counselled at Harvest GeorgiaIn addition to founding the Harvest Crusades -- the longest-running annual evangelistic outreach in U.S. history -- Laurie also serves as senior pastor of one of the largest churches in America, Harvest Christian Fellowship, which has campuses in Riverside and Irvine, Calif., and Maui, Hawaii. He serves on the board of directors for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA).
Harvest Crusades with Greg Laurie will hold its next outreach, Harvest America 2017, at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Phoenix, Ariz. on June 10, 2017.

Matchmaking God brought true love after prophetic dreams

Matchmaking God brought true love after prophetic dreams

By Mark Ellis, Senior Correspondent for ASSIST News Service
Elizabeth CollLAGUNA BEACH, CA (ANS - September 26, 2016) -- A hideous violation by her second husband left her wondering if she could every trust a man again. Then her best friend died from cancer, and a series of prophetic words and dreams opened her heart to love again.
Originally from Canada, Elizabeth Coll moved to California with her daughter and second husband. “What we went through in our first year (of marriage) brought me to the end of myself,” Elizabeth says. A strong Christian, she had always pointed to her blessed circumstances to show others the greatness and love of God.
But then she faced the ultimate betrayal by her new husband. “It was horrible, the circumstances couldn’t look any worse. He appeared to be a strong Christian, but he was a sociopath hiding in the church,” she says.
“One day I thought I had a great man who loved the Lord and loved me. But I was married to a monster.”
Years earlier, Elizabeth was distraught after her first marriage fell apart. “I never wanted to be divorced,” she says. “I went through a huge journey with God over that.”
A Christian counselor thought she was ready to marry again, and she went into the second marriage cautiously. “I looked for red flags. He had two amazing sons.” Everything looked right on the surface, until disaster struck.
“He was a predator,” she says. “He doesn’t have a conscience. It was the worst thing I could imagine.”
The violation rocked her faith and left her wondering what to believe. Could God even use this for good? she wondered.
“I felt betrayed by the whole church. To trust other Christians again would be a miracle,” she felt.
Elizabeth and KarenElizabeth found a small church in Laguna Beach, California known as Church by the Sea, which she found to be a healing place. Slowly, God began to fill Elizabeth’s heart with peace and contentment. “I would get up each day and God would show me what to do and how to do it. I would be on my face at night. He would give me what I needed,” she recounts.
In the midst of Elizabeth’s journey toward healing and wholeness, her best friend Karen was stricken with terminal cancer. “She was the first person who loved me with the love of Christ. I shared with her the things I kept secret. She was so loving and kind. She shaped my Christian walk.”
Karen had been her soul mate as the marriage fell apart. “She knew everything that happened. She walked through it with me,” Elizabeth says.
In their last conversation before Karen passed into the arms of the Lord, she said something to Elizabeth that caught her off guard: “I want you to promise me you won’t shut your heart down. God has a lovely man for you who you will be able to trust.”
Elizabeth and husband Marc“Okay, I promise,” Elizabeth said half-heartedly. At that moment, she couldn’t imagine trusting a man and allowing him into her life.
About nine months after Karen’s passing, she had a God-inspired dream that left her wondering.
In the dream, she found herself standing on a pier in California. It was a place she had never seen before. “I was standing near a railing, with my hands on the railing. I looked down at the dark blue water,” she said.
Inadvertently, her keys slipped out of her hands and fell into the water. What am I going to do? she wondered.

When Witch Doctors Fail and Deities Remain Silent

When Witch Doctors Fail and Deities Remain Silent

Gospel for Asia (www.gfa.org) News Release – For Immediate Release
WILLS POINT, TX (ANS – September 26, 2016) -- Sapna left the witch doctors, frustrated and disappointed to again be met with failure. Doctors were unsuccessful in treating her severe pain, and now even witch doctors couldn’t find a cure.
Sapna wondered why faithfully obeying her religious customs for so many years hadn’t brought her the blessings she expected. As part of the local priest’s family, she had diligently worshiped since her childhood. Why, then, did she lack peace? And why was she plagued with this unbearable pain in her body?
Women’s Fellowship Team Diligently Prays
When witch doctors failIn the midst of her deep distress, Sapna heard about three Women’s Fellowship team members in her area who regularly gathered with ladies for times of prayer, worship and discipleship. What’s more, she heard that when these women prayed to Jesus, He answered their prayers and healed many people from their problems.
Without delay, Sapna approached the Women’s Fellowship sisters and shared the burdens of her heart. Disillusioned by all her failed efforts to receive healing through her rituals, she asked the sisters to pray to Jesus for her.
The three ladies, Aastha, Barkha and Madhu, comforted Sapna from the Word of God and assured her they would pray fervently for her. They told Sapna who Jesus is, and as Sapna heard the wonderful news about His love and sacrifice, her faith in Christ began to grow.
For three days, Aastha, Barkha and Madhu prayed and fasted, believing Jesus for a miracle in Sapna’s life. Then, just as He healed the blind and the lame when He walked on earth, Jesus healed Sapna from her severe pain.
Husband Touched by Wife’s Transformation
Overwhelmed by the answered prayers and God’s powerful working in her life, a restored Sapna asked the Great Physician to heal her stained heart as well, and to make it His home.
After experiencing such complete transformation, Sapna encouraged her husband to join her in attending worship services with the other believers in their village, and soon, he discovered the power of Jesus for himself.
Although she was raised in a family dedicated to their traditional religious heritage, Sapna’s search for peace and healing led her to Jesus. Now, she and her husband rejoice in their knowledge of God and pray their relatives may one day know His great love, too.

Petr Jasek has been unjustly jailed for his faith. He needs your help today.

Petr with Boy
Petr Jasek has been unjustly jailed for his faith. He needs your help today.

Christian aid worker Petr Jasek has been wrongfully imprisoned in Sudan for 293 days, and his family is asking you to help save his life.

Facing espionage charges that could lead to a death sentence, Petr is being held captive in the squalor of a Sudanese prison, but his faith is strong. VOM knows Petr as a kindhearted man who has assisted VOM in providing care to persecuted Christians in Sudan and Nigeria, including medical care for Christians attacked by Boko Haram.

He was arrested in December 2015 in Khartoum, along with two Sudanese pastors whose stories have been widely reported. The trial for these men began on Sunday, Aug. 21, after more than nine months of wrongful imprisonment because of their Christian faith. Petr’s family has asked The Voice of the Martyrs to bring his situation to the attention of American Christians, asking for prayer and advocacy as the trial continues.

Help Petr Now

Petr with Pastor
VOM has stood with Petr’s family since the day of his arrest, meeting their immediate needs and providing for Petr’s legal defense, just as we do for many others around the world who are imprisoned for their faith. Petr’s faith is strong, and he knows we are lifting him up in prayer. In the first letter he sent to his family after his arrest last December, Petr stated that “God holds the key to my cell. He will open the door in His timing.”

The Voice of the Martyrs provides help to the families of imprisoned Christians through the Families of Martyrs Fund, and you can help today.

Laz, Lazuri in Turkey

Laz, Lazuri in Turkey
In Turkish folklore, the Laz (or Mingrelian) have a reputation for plundering and piracy. They were notorious as kidnappers, and until the 1800's, they engaged in slave hunts focusing on young children. Today, however, they are respected as industrious, educated, adventurous, and trustworthy people.

Scripture resources are needed in their language.
Outreach Ideas
Georgian believers could be challenged to minister to the Laz in both Georgia and Turkey. Gospel recordings in the language are available.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray those who consider themselves to be Christians will in fact place their faith in the finished work of Christ, and joyfully give thanks to the Father who has qualified them to share in the inheritance of the saints.

A Paralyzed Man Is Healed

An empty hospital bed.
Marco saw two incredible things within the span of three months. One was absolutely horrible. The other was completely miraculous.
The horrible thing happened as Marco was riding his bicycle home from a day of teaching. Up ahead, he saw another bicycling teacher peddle into an intersection — only to be hit by an oncoming pickup truck. The impact threw the teacher into the air before collapsing him onto the pavement. The pickup truck never stopped. The teacher wasn’t moving.
Marco ran to the injured man’s side. It was Iván, a third grade teacher at Marco’s school. As Iván recovered from the shock of the collision, he screamed out in pain. Marco quickly called for an ambulance.
At the hospital, the prognosis was grim. Iván had three broken ribs; his stomach, kidneys and lungs had suffered internal injuries; and his back was broken in three places. Iván was paralyzed.

PRAYING HELPS! Mrs. M. (71) was ordered to live in a smaller house. They came in her home and took new things from her, also from her daughter and granddaughter, including photographs and valuable documents and threw it in a container. She asked us to pray and she has a lawyer now. She already heard that she can stay in her house and yesterday her granddaughter has received a home. PRAY: For God's power and a miracle in the lawsuit, so that she will get back her belongings or be reimbursed.

A Marriage made in Hollywood

A Marriage made in Hollywood (and Waikiki Beach), was still beset with problems -- until God intervened

Now Bob and Yvonne Turnbull, will share the secrets of their long marriage at a unique Southern California marriage conference
By Dan Wooding, Founder, ASSIST News Service
Smaller Bob and Yvonne TurnbullLA MIRADA, CA (ANS – September 27, 2016) – One-time Hollywood film and TV actor, Bob Turnbull, who was featured in such shows as “Hawaii 5-0,” “Petticoat Junction,” “Ironside,” and “My Three Sons,” thought he had a glamorous marriage that was made in both Hollywood and Waikiki Beach.
But like so many marriages, it soon turned sour, and it took God to finally heal it and now they are planning to share their secrets at a seminar called “Communication: The Key to an Intimate Relationship” at the La Mirada Christian Church in La Mirada, California, a city in southeast Los Angeles County, California, on Saturday, October 8th.
“We have spent 25 years of our marriage presenting marriage and family conferences all throughout the USA and Canada, and now only want to do them on an occasional basis,” said Yvonne Turnbull, who became a Christian in her late 20’s and quickly realized she had been designed by God for a purpose. However, too often she says, she was stopped from living out that purpose because of her struggles with a negative attitude, continual worry and fear.
Yvonne says that the Lord started on her journey of learning to both depend on Him and trust Him for everything in her life. Gaining confidence with the Lord directing her, she states that she started to experience a wonderful new freedom and growth in her life, plus how the Lord is truly faithful in all situations. When she started to share her journey with other women she discovered that many women were also struggling with worry, fear and a negative attitude.
She speaks from her heart to the hearts of other women, and encourages them as she delivers a message of hope of what God can do in their lives. Bob also shares this same message to husbands who attend their seminars.
BobonbeachTheir life together began on the golden sands of the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki Beach, where he and his wife, Yvonne, met at the “Sun and Soul Talk” beach service that Bob started there in the 70’s.
“We instantly had ‘an eye’ for each other and became good friends over a three-year period,” said Yvonne. “The Lord, in His unique way, changed that just-friendship level during the same week when we both had a strong nudge from the Lord to become husband and wife, which we did a few months later.”
Bob then said, “Even though we had a strong faith we soon discovered we were woefully unprepared for a marriage union.”
Yvonne followed up by saying, “We played the usual cover-up marriage game. We would put on the ‘Happy Mask’ wherever we went and so everybody assumed we were blissfully happy as a married couple. Not.”
Bob and Yvonne’s personalities are strong and they had a built-in power struggle, and each were too prideful to seek help. But God met them at their lowest point in those early years of their marriage, by giving them a reason for hope.
Bob says, “I was a volunteer football coach at a high school and while driving home from one of our practices I yelled out, ‘God, is there any hope for our team on Friday night? 'And then added, ‘By the way, is there any hope for our marriage?’”
It was then that God placed a thought in Bob’s mind. “He reminded me of Romans 15:13 and what He planted it in my mind went like this – ‘May the God of hope - for your marriage - fill you with all joy and peace - in your marriage - but only as you trust in Him - so that you may overflow with hope - in your marriage - by the power of the Holy Spirit - Who - don't forget - lives in both of your 24/7.’ Gulp! THAT impacted me.”
Bob went home to tell Yvonne the revelation that God had placed in his mind. As he walked in the door, he saw Yvonne sitting on the couch with tears in her eyes. He asked what was wrong?
Bob20with20Eddie20AlbertSMMA28675535 0002Yvonne replied, “Nothing is wrong. Actually it is right. I was looking through the Bible and a verse in the New Testament caught my eye and one I am sure will give us hope for all of our marital struggles. Before I could tell Bob what it was he asked me, ‘Was it Romans 15:13?’ and that stunned me. I told him it was and then we both knew that was the Lord talking to both of us, giving us hope. We held each other and thankful tears filled our eyes. From that moment on it wasn't just two steps forward and one back, but around four or five steps forward and one back. That was a turning point in our relationship.”
Prior to leaving the Hollywood Entertainment Industry and moving to Hawaii, Bob had been in many movies and TV shows, which also included, “The Smothers Brothers,” and “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” to name a few. Films were “The Story of Ruth,” Camelot,” “One Way Out,” and “The Little Bustard.” (Yes Bustard - it is a bird). It was during his Hollywood days that he became a Christian when a Christian actress witnessed to him.
God’s intervention three times in their lives kept them away from death’s door. Once, when Yvonne was thrown off a motorcycle when she had just graduated from high school and once, when she switched cars enroute over some mountain passes on her way home from Washington State University to her home in the Seattle area and because she switched from the front car to the back car she wasn’t killed when for whatever reason the front car decided to pass on a curve and was hit head-on by a lumber truck and the vehicle burst into flames and all four students burned to death instantly right before her horrified eyes. God had plans for her life.
Bob says, “In my case as a very young boy I was at a summer camp and came down with a bad stomach ache. A doctor who frequently visited the camp, and had just done so a week earlier, was passing by and at the last moment decided to pop in for a quick check. When told of my stomach ache and after he talked to me for a while he suddenly poked his finger right in the area of where my appendix is. I yowled. He quickly called for the Highway Patrol to come get me and with lights and sirens rushed 32 miles to the nearest hospital. I was later told that after one incision that my appendix burst. If that doctor had not stopped by when he did, and especially since I had that stomach ache for three days already, I could have easily died.” Yes, God had plans for his life, too.
BookCoverCallingAngel“Both of us are looking forward to presenting our ‘Communication: The Key to an Intimate Relationship” at the La Mirada Christian Church in La Mirada, on Saturday, October 8th,” said Bob.
Their topics include: “How To Talk So Your Mate Will Listen,” “Help! What Does My Spouse Really want?,” “Getting Out Of The Argument Rut” and “Continuing To Grow Your Marriage (No matter how long you've been married).”
“Since we received Hope at the right time in our own marriage, we want to pass along that Hope plus Help assisting couples in building a lasting relationship,” added Bob. “In the history of our conferences we have been informed that 1,822 couples, after attending our marriage gatherings, have either postponed or halted their divorce plans. Knowing THAT has given US HOPE to keep on keeping on.
JackLord“Having cut way back our national/international traveling, and now settled in the Palm Springs area, we are now enjoying being Relationship Coaches together, plus I am a certified personal trainer and Yvonne is a certified health coach, and just as of September 1st she is now full-time as the House Manager of the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, which is the Coachella Valley's premiere performing arts center. Busy doing what our passions are and not just loving it but thankful for it.”

Pastor Saeed Abedini shared Gospel with prison official

Pastor Saeed Abedini shared Gospel with prison official while he waited at airport for ‘ransom’ money to arrive

By Mark Ellis, Senior Correspondent for ASSIST News Service (www.assistnews.net
Pastor Saeed Abedini on TVNEW YORK (ANS -- September 27, 2016) -- The Iranian-American Christian Pastor, Saaed Abedini, held in prison in Iran for over three years due to his underground church activities, shared the Gospel as he waited at the airport for his release.
Pastor Abedini spoke at a rally September 20th in New York protesting a visit to the UN by Iran’s President, Hassan Rouhani. Pastor Abedini and others called for a halt to Tehran’s sponsorship of terrorism. They also demanded a halt to the executions in Iran, and urged the prosecution of the regime’s leaders.
Following the protest, Pastor Abedini was interviewed by Neil Cavuto of Fox News and shared further details about his release in January from Iranian confinement and return to the U.S.
The release and prisoner swap became controversial when it was later revealed that the arrival of a plane with $400 million in cash from the U.S. was instrumental in the process.
In addition to Pastor Abedini, Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian, Marine veteran Amir Hekmati and Nosratollah Khosrawi were also released by Iran on January 16, 2016.
Pastor Abedini recalled the circumstances of his release on Fox News. “When they escorted us from Evin Prison to the airport they told us in 20 minutes you will get into a plane from Switzerland and then fly out of the country,” he recounted.
“But when we got to the airport it took 20 hours. They kept us and we slept in the airport.”
During the lag time, Pastor Abedini felt emboldened to share the Gospel with his captor. “There was a guard with me who was in charge of all intelligence and policing at Evin Prison. I knew I was going to be free and they couldn’t do anything to me so I started sharing the gospel with him,” he told Fox.
“I talked about my faith. I talked about Jesus, that he was God in the flesh who came on the earth and took the punishment for our sins.
“When I shared the Gospel, the Good News with him, he opened up his heart because I said Jesus wants to go into your heart and save your life and cleanse all your sins because he went on the cross for you.”
